One of the things that can keep your cabinets from deteriorating is constant cleaning and repainting. Depending on where you’re situated, cleaning them cabinets can help keep the moisture and dust from debilitating the wood, and eventually destroying the material. Cabinet painting can even be a fun bonding activity for the family.
The things you might want to take note of when repainting your cabinet is that you can either choose to apply a new coat of paint or a new coat of varnish on your cabinets. While new paint coats can be pretty good, varnish can be just as good an alternative, especially for wood-grain designed cabinets. You can refinish it with varnish and then just coat it with polyurethane if you’d rather keep the wood-style finish.
Of course, there are other options. You can pickle the cabinet to bring out the wood’s natural grain whilst adding a bit of color to the mix; just apply a coat of flat oil-based paint and then wipe it off with a rag before it sets. Or you can always bleach the wood, to lighten the stained wood effect; just make sure to apply the bleach on a warm day, and test the process on a small part of the cabinet before applying it to the rest of the furniture.
